Need a new hinge?

Most interior doors use 3-1/2" hinges, and exterior doors usually need 4" to handle the extra weight. Hinge sizes start with the hinge pin length, so it’s the first thing to check.

How to measure door hinges

  1. Remove one hinge from your door.
  2. Measure the height, width, and knuckle length (the part connecting the leaves).
  3. Check your door’s thickness—interior doors are usually 1-3/8", exteriors 1-3/4" to 2".

With the size and corner style, you’ll be ready to pick the right hinge and get started!
